A native of Lancaster County, he was born Sept. 20, 1923, in Ronks, Lancaster County. He and the former Beatrice Bingaman Quinn were married June 25, 1994.
He attended Bieler's School in Lancaster County.
Elmer was a veteran of World War II.
He was a self-employed woodworker and wood carver. He enjoyed woodworking in all its different forms.
Elmer was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, Watsontown.
He enjoyed fishing and had a green thumb, raising many plants.
Surviving, in addition to his wife of 11 years, are five children, Tim and Genevieve, both of Louisiana, Barbara of Washington, D.C., Miriam of Ephrata and Deborah of Ohio; grandchildren; nieces; nephews; five siblings, Abner Zook of Lebanon County, Isaac Zook of Leola, Fanny Stoltzfus of Wrightsville, Barbara Riehl of Lewisburg and Amos Zook of Leola; and his brother-in-law, Melvin S. Allgyer.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary; one grandson; and five siblings, Aaron, Miriam and Anna Mary Zook, Nancy Allgyer and Benjamin Zook.
Visitors may call from noon until 1 today at the John H. Shaw Funeral Home, Market and Eighth streets, Lewisburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 1 by the Rev. Jerry L. Caswell, his pastor.
Burial will be in Montandon Cemetery.
The family will provide the flowers and asks that donations in Elmer's memory be made to either the Susquehanna Valley Alzheimers Support Group, in care of Mary Baylor, 5 Brookside Drive, Danville, PA 17821, or to the Pennsylvania SPCA, 2801 Bloom Road, Danville, PA 17821.
