Elizabeth Elliott Obituary

ELIZABETH C. 'BETTY ' ELLIOTT Elizabeth C. "Betty" Elliott, a longtime Glen Ellyn resident, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 24, 2013, in her home, surrounded by her children. She was 83. She was the widow of former Glenbard West principal, Robert D. "Bob" Elliott, who died in 1991. The couple met when both were teachers at Evanston High School. Mrs. Elliott taught math at ETHS, and later, at Nichols Intermediate School. They moved to Glen Ellyn in 1972. Mrs. Elliott was proud to have been one of a handful of female math majors in the Class of 1952, at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. She had a keen interest in mathematics and in the sciences, especially chemistry, and was pleased that her son and oldest grandson shared that interest. Her grandchildren called her "MorMor" (Swedish for grandma), and she took great joy in attending their piano and dance recitals, baseball games, and other events. MorMor 's hall closet was loaded with toys and her candy jar was always full. An active community member, Mrs. Elliott had an abiding interest in civic affairs and, for many years, served as an election judge for her Milton Township precinct. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, where she served on the Church Council, including two terms as president. Mrs. Elliott also enjoyed the fellowship and friendship of the women in the Martha Circle at Faith. She was active in the Sunset Avenue Book Club, the Glen Ellyn Women 's Club, and the Glenbard West Boosters. Born in Chicago, she was the daughter of the late Francis Carlborg and Sonja Johnson. She is survived by her children, Carolyn of Maidens, Virginia, Jeanne (Enright) of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Steven of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Timothy of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; sons-in-law, Bill Enright, and Donald Ashburn; daughters-in-law Anne Elliott, and Monique Pisciotta; grandchildren Nate Ashburn, Grace Enright, Joe Enright, Robert Elliott, Avery Elliott and Harrison Elliott; brother, Frank Carlborg and his wife, Deane; sister, Sonja Campbell, her husband, Bruce; nephews, Keith and Kevin Gilmartin. She was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Gilmartin, and by a daughter, Laura Beth Elliott. A memorial service and celebration of her life were held May 29 at Faith Lutheran Church in Glen Ellyn. Interment was at Memorial Park in Skokie. Please send memorials to either: Parish Nurse Program, Faith Lutheran Church, 41 N. Park Blvd., Glen Ellyn, Illinois, 60137; or Robert D. Elliott Scholarship Foundation, Glenbard West High School, 670 Crescent Boulevard, Glen Ellyn, Illinois, 60137.

Dear Elliott Family: I loved both of your parents and was overjoyed to discover that Betty was a resident of The Meadows where my mom has been since February. I am only sad that I reconnected with her there only a couple of times when I happened to be getting in the elevator at the same time. Your father was one of my first and most important mentors and I was devastated when he passed away. Your mother kept me on the Christmas letter list for years and I loved hearing about all of your "growing up" events. I know you know how lucky you are to have had such wonderful parents. We will miss Betty now just as much as we miss Bob, but as one writer noted, they are together in eternity. I hope you feel comforted by the love that many will share with you at the memorial service. If I do not make it, please know that I am there in spirit. Fondly, Barb Dill-Varga (and family Steve and Alex)

To Tim especially--
I was saddened to hear of your mom's death. I regret that a conflict prevents me from coming to the celebration of her life.
Your whole family played such a valuable role for my son Rob Vischer. I am grateful that he was able to spend time in your home with all you guys that hung together during high school.
Your mom was also helpful to me upon the sudden death of my husband Bob. Though I did not know her well, I am glad that we had several valuable conversations.
May you know God's comfort in your loss.

Jeanne,

From your friends at Nuveen, please accept our deepest sympathy on the passing of your mother. A loss of a parent is never easy, however, she will always be in your fondest memories.

What a great lady she was! Sharp as a tack to the end. Her sweet smile was only matched by her sweet tooth. Betty's intelligence was her hidden talent, but it never remained hidden for too long. All you had to do was sit and have a conversation and you knew she was on top of things. She and Bob raised 4 good citizens; in addition to the part they played in raising many Glen Ellyn youth thru Glenbard West.
Dr. & Mrs. Elliott will be missed, but they live on in Glen Ellyn.

I knew Betty through Faith Lutheran Church. At some point, we discovered we were both Augustana grads, although 23 years apart. After that, I felt a special kinship with her. Sending comfort and sympathy to the family at this time.

I knew Betty just a few years. You don't have to know Betty very long to realize what a quality person she is. She loved to talk and I loved to listen to her interesting stories. This world is a better place because of her. How truly sad it is that this world has to lose people like her. Those she leaves behind will grieve her loss. Those who preceded her in death, will welcome her with open arms. First in line to welcome her will be her husband Bob, after all he has been waiting 22 years to be reunited with her. This time they will be together for eternity. You could say their life together is just beginning.
