Elenore Pounds Obituary

Elenore T. Pounds, 99, a longtime resident of Downers Grove, died March 29 at the Burgess Square Nursing home in Westmont. Private services were held on Tuesday. Mrs. Pounds was born in Buffalo, New York, and was a graduate of the University of Iowa. She was a former teacher and became a Directing Editor for Scott, Foresman, Publishers in Chicago. While working for Scott, Foresman, Mrs. Pounds co-authored more than 50 textbooks for elementary school children. A number of her books were translated for use in schools throughout the world. She was also the author of numerous travel articles for a variety of publications. Throughout her life Mrs. Pounds was active in Democratic Party Politics. Mrs. Pounds was preceded in death by her husband, Harry E. Pounds. She is survived by her son, Geoffrey Pounds of Sarasota, Florida; her daughter, Meredith Branson of Bethesda, Maryland; three grandchildren, Courtney Pounds, John Branson and Kate Gmuer and one great-grandchild, Thomas Gmuer. Interment was private. Contributions in Mrs. Pounds name can be made to Morton Arboretum in Lisle.
