Eleanor Weems Obituary

Eleanor "Gerry" (Hoffman) Weems, age 88, lifelong resident of Downers Grove and Lisle IL went to rest with the Lord on March 24, 2012. Eleanor is preceded in death by her mother, Gertrude Reynolds Hoffman Hagen and her beloved step-father, Chris Hagen; also her brothers, Reynolds, Lyle, Elwin, William; and sister, the late Alberta Engelhardt. Gerry graduated from Downers Grove High School in 1943 and married the late Burle S. Weems in 1945. She loved being mother to her two children, Lee Weems of Montgomery, IL and Eileen (beloved son-in-law, Robert) Muir of Lisle, IL; also her four grandchildren, Carrie and Chris Weems and Chad and Ryan Muir. In the late 60's Gerry started her working career as an accounting clerk at GTE in Northlake, IL which she enjoyed until her retirement in1987. She was an avid reader and great cook, but she loved most, spending time with her family and friends. Gerry was a kind and gentle soul with a remarkable ability that made people like and love her. The family will conduct a memorial service at Clarendon Hills Cemetery IL at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation in her name may be made to Shriners Hospital, 2211 N Oak Park Ave., Chicago, IL 60707-3392.
