Eleanor Catherine McCarthy formerly of Riverside, at rest November 23, 2007 in Del Mar, CA. loving wife of the late Dr. John McCarthy; dearest mother of Bonnie and step mother of James, Joseph and Jerome; grandmother of 9, great grandmother of 21. As a representative of the "Greatest Generation" Eleanor lived an active Life focused on service with a quiet and unassuming dignity. She devoted thousands of hours to Macneal Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was a past president; she was a member of the Twentieth Century Club, Lyric Opera Guild and her local AARP Chapter. Eleanor was innately compassionate and was a gentle caregiver to her husband, parents and extended family and friends. It was a role she continued to fill in her nursing home in California even as her health declined. She encouraged others to pursue an education and reach for their dreams. A beautiful woman in every way she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Memorial services Saturday, June 7, 2008 from 12 Noon till 3 PM at Ivins Funeral Home 80 E. Burlington St. Riverside.
