Edwin Howard Hendricks, 82, of Glen Ellyn, born December 7, 1931, in Valparaiso, Indiana to the late John and Bertha Hendricks, passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 6, 2014.
Beloved husband of Carol Sue (nee Richie) for 52 years; loving father of Ann Schlabach and Nancy (Jim) Martin; proud grandfather of Kelly, Jamie and Caroline Martin and Sara Schlabach; kind uncle of many nieces and nephews and brother of the late Richard (Louise) and Darlene (late Vernon) Beatty.
Ed served in the Korean War in the U.S. Navy. He was employed as the Finance Director for the Department of Energy and recognized for over 35 years of Federal Service. Ed graduated from Valparaiso High School in 1950. After high school, he entered the Navy and after serving his country for 4 years, he went to Indiana University and received a degree in Business followed by a Master of Business, also from Indiana University.
Visitation Saturday, September 13, 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. at Leonard Memorial Home, 565 Duane Street, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137.
Memorials made to B.R. Ryall YMCA, 49 Deicke Dr. Glen Ellyn, IL, in Ed's name would be greatly appreciated.

"On Top of Old Smokey~~ all covered with snow" the only song when sung by YOU was guaranteed to make my daughter fall asleep. My children and I all grew in your loving arms. There are many warm, joyful memories you gave to me and my children~always treasured, always remembered. So in joyful memory of ALL the LOVE you gave to this crazy Richie family I share a few lines of a song we sang together at Nancy Link's wedding where we laughed and danced and sang: "Elvira, Elvira, my heart's on fire, for Elvira Giddy Up, Giddy Up, Oom Poppa Oom Poppa Mow Mow.
THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for loving me and my children You graced our lives, Uncle Ed, in wisdom, peace and love~~Rest in Peace now, till we meet again.

Uncle Ed was a really special man. He was always kind, caring and gentle. And with a quick wit, throwing a zinger when you didn't expect it. We know he loved you, and Ann and Nancy, very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
