Earl Joseph Sumner, 92, of Downers Grove, Il. passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2021. Born September 23, 1928 in Chicago, Il, the loving son of the late John and Frances (Egan) Sumner, brother of the late Eugene Sumner and Patrick Sumner. Beloved husband to Elaine nee Doerr for 70 years. Loving father of Nancy (Edward) Fiala, Mary Jane Berland, Michael Sumner, Patricia (Eric) Heinekamp, and Thomas Sumner. Fond Grandfather of, Andrew and Rose Fiala, Bill Berland, Kevin (Jen) Berland and Sarah Berland, Nichelle, Ericka, Michael and Nicole Sumner, Justin (Ashley) Heinekamp, Kristen (Christopher) Peterson and Katie Heinekamp, Erin (Jason) Heldmann, and Jennifer Sumner. Cherished great-grandfather of Liam, Adalina, Everett, Victor, Clara, Anna, Starling and Wren.
Earl was a member of the Plumbers/Pipe Fitters Local 130 for 68 years and a long time member of St Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Lisle, Il.
Earl loved any kind of football and had a life long love of Notre Dame football. He was a history buff and avid reader. Devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Mass of Christian Burial Friday, February 26,11:00am at St Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Kingston & Front Streets, Lisle, Il. Interment SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Naperville, Il.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
