Dorothy Friel Obituary

Dorothy Friel WATERVLIET – Dorothy M. Friel passed away on February 11, 2013, at the age of 87, in the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation at Hoosick Falls. Born in Watervliet, Dorothy was the daughter of the late James J. and Emma C. (Williams) Friel. She was raised and educated in Watervliet and had attended both the former Sacred Heart of Mary Elementary School and Watervliet High School from where she graduated in 1943. Dorothy was employed, for more than 38 years, by the NY Telephone Company and spent the early part of her career working in Troy as an operator. A part of her duties were to train and educate other operators in long distance and new dialing systems. In 1971, Dorothy transferred to the NY Telephone Company's Menands office where she worked in computer telephony integration (CTI). She retired in 1981. A Watervliet resident for many years, Dorothy had also resided in Menands and Colonie before relocating to Hoosick Falls in October of last year. Dorothy was a communicant of the former Sacred Heart of Mary Church in Watervliet. Although Dorothy has no surviving family members she was blessed, throughout her life, with several good friends. A funeral Mass will be celebrated for Dorothy on Friday at 10 am in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on the corner of 25th Street and 7th Avenue in Watervliet. Interment will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Watervliet. Friends are invited to attend her funeral and may also visit at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet on Thursday from 3 until 5 pm where Dorothy will lie in repose.
