Doris McMenamin Obituary

Doris J. McMenamin, 81, a lifelong resident of West Chicago, died peacefully at her home on April 7, 2008. Dorie, as she was known to her friends, will be remembered for her great generosity of spirit, her love of wildlife - especially birds, her wonderful positive outlook on life, and her zest for living. She will be remembered fondly by the neighborhood children as "Mrs. M." Many longtime residents of West Chicago will remember Doris as the secretary of Gary School in the late 60s and 70s. She then worked for the next 28 years as Medical Staff Secretary at Central DuPage Hospital. Doris was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Paul McMenamin; her beloved mother, Anna Wilhelm; and her cherished brother, Rudy Wilhelm. She is survived by her devoted daughters and son-in-law, Mary Anne McMenamin (formerly Shepherd), Susan A.M. Atkinson and David Atkinson; 3 grandsons, Scott Shepherd (wife Carla), Brian Shepherd and Kevin S.M. Atkinson (wife Amber); and 6 great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, T.J. and Delilah Shepherd and Amaya, Cyrus and Satya Atkinsonclark. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations in Doris' name to the National Wildlife Federation or the National Audubon Society. Arrangements by Williams-Woodward Funeral Home, West Chicago, IL.
