Donald Tuttle Obituary

Donald Ray Tuttle, 92, born January 29, 1920 in Norfolk, NE, went to be with his Lord and Savior March 16, 2012. Preceding him in death was his beloved wife, Marian Gibbs Tuttle. He is survived by his siblings Glen Tuttle, Shirley Campbell, Doris Kathol, and Arthur Tuttle; children Wanda and her husband John Black of Holiday Island, AR, Bonnie and her husband Richard Reed of Duncanville, TX, Harvey Tuttle and his wife Linda of Wooster, OH, Roy Tuttle and his wife Nancy of Seminole, FL, Janis and her husband Keith Ward of Ridgeway, SC; 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. His father, noting his keen mechanical mind, enrolled him in a radio correspondence course. When he enlisted in the Army Air Corp one week before Pearl Harbor at the age of 21, he received more schooling in radio and became a radar instructor. He taught in Boca Raton, Florida, where he met his wife of 64 years, Marian of Hope, NJ. They married 10-17-45. In 1950, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology. He raised his family of five children in Downers Grove, IL, where he attended First Baptist Church. He served his church as greeter, deacon AWANA commander and more. After 25 years of working as an electrical engineer for IBM, Don retired. He and Marian enjoyed traveling the country via motorhome visiting friends and family and enjoying God's awesome creation. They spent 17 retirement years in Englewood, FL. He was active at Calvary Baptist Church. For many years he played the healed paralytic in their dramatic production "The Lamb." Don and Marian spent their last years rotating among their 5 children in 5 different states. Each of their children got the honor of having them stay with them six months at a time. Everywhere Don went, he got involved in the churches he attended. He will be remembered by many as a smiling servant. He is now enjoying the fruits of his faithfulness in serving Christ throughout his long, well-lived life. Services will be held 2pm, March 22, Lemon Bay Funeral Home, 2 Buchans Landing, Englewood. Memorials may be sent to AWANA International, 1 East Bode Road, Streamwood, IL 60107.

I was one of those who got to meet dear Mr. Tuttle as he was on a stay with Jan and Keith in Columbia, SC. Of course, like everybody else who took the chance to get to know him, I loved him and will always keep him in my heart. I just pray that I can leave a fraction of as many wonderful tracks as Mr. Tuttle did. To meet him was to love him and the more you did, the more you were blessed. God's love shined through him in his quiet, kind but sparkling way. He couldn't help but sparkle!
His eyes danced and he'd give you a smile but you knew his bigger smile was yet to burst out when you shared God's love. He made a big impact on me. I am so sorry to lose him here; but ... we all know he was confined a little, just raring for his home in heaven so we have to be so happy for him too.

I don't know his other children, grandchildren and greats, but I have to say that his Jan ... she has that very same sparkle, that smile in her eyes!! And that is so wonderful!!

The funeral was very nice - a good remembrance of his life throughout the years. My dad was a living testimony of God's blessings in a person's life. God blessed him richly, and Dad, in turn, lived a life of devotion to his Lord. He will be greatly missed! I was VERY fortunate to have such a loving, intelligent, dad. God gave him many years, and I am all the better because of his influence in my life.

I had many occasions to be with Don and his lovely wife when visiting with Harvey and my sister Linda. I have very fond memories of this loving and gracious couple, eating many meals and playing cards among some. I know they are once again together with God. My condolences and love go out to the entire family.

Condolences, to my oldest friend, and his family, on the passing of his father. May the hand of God, caress you, may the breath of God, breathe new life into you, may God appear to you, and offer you salvation. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
