Dear Joanne,
I was sorry to learn of Don's passing. Even though I only met him a couple of times when he was with you at our Mount Morris reunions, I enjoyed my conversations with him. Please know that several of our classmates would like to get in touch with you, but don't know your current address. I said I would try to locate you and let them know how they could reach you.
You are remembered fondly by all of us in the class of 1957 and are in our prayers at this trying time in your life. If you would like to correspond with any of us in the future, please, send contact information to me and I will pass it along to them. Wishing you and yours a better 2017.
Regards,
Charlie Martello

As a young freshman I had the pleasure of playing football beside Don. He inspired and motivated me in many ways. He was simply a man among boys back in those days. God bless Donald and may he RIP.

As a friend of Wayne and Barb, I know how much Don meant to them. I met him a couple of times and could see why Wayne loved him so much.

Joanne, Elizabeth and Peter,
I have such fond childhood memories of our families gathering in Columbus or Greece. I remember how intelligent, smart and full of life Don was. While he will be missed greatly, he left his footprint on the world and touched people's' hearts. I am grateful that he is no longer suffering. Peace and Blessings,
Stacey Herrick

Joanne,
So sorry to hear about Don. We love the BA and MA in the obituary. He was a remarkable person who could find common ground with anyone. Don was the only fellow Univ of Rochester alum I ever met and a good friend who I often saw at McConnnell diligently doing his workouts. We will miss him.

I am greatly saddened to hear of Donald's passing. He was my classmate at #7 School, John Marshall High, and the U of R. He was kind and had a wonderful sense of humor. My warm wishes to his family.

Sending condolences to Joanne, Pete and Liz and the rest of the family. Don was a much-appreciated Wilson Hill parent and an OSU prof to many of us teachers. It sounds like he continued to lead a wonderful life in retirement. You have so many memories to treasure and to ease the sense of loss you all must feel. Hugs, Patti

Don Haefele is one of the most memorable individuals I have ever met. I have fond memories of when he lived adjacent to Marty's Delicatessen frequenting, with Wayne, our hangout at #7 Playground. As a student manager of the 1956 JMHS football team Don was my hero and role model: gentlemen, student body president, scholar athlete. He did it all possessing a unique ability to walk with kings yet retain the common touch.

Donald Haefele was undoubtedly one of the most memorable individuals I have had the honour to meet going back to the 1950's when he lived adjacent to Marty's Delicatessen and frequented, with Wayne, #7 Playground. For me, as a "student manager" of the 1956 JMHS football team, Don was my hero -gentleman, S.A. President, National Honor Society, football, wrestling and track. Don, per Kipling, could "walk w/kings, nor lose the common touch".

My name is Tom McGuire. Don and I were very good friends and football and wrestling teammates at the U of R. Don was an exceptional athlete and person. I had not wrestled in high school. Don taught me everything for two years in our practice matches day to day. Mrs. Haefele I am sorry for your loss. You know he was very well liked and respected at the U of R. I lost touch with Don after the U of R. His Ph.D. from Syracuse U and his teaching position at Ohio State attest to the kind of successful person he was. Thank you.
