Deborah Seegers Obituary

Deborah Barton Seegers, M Ed., LISAC, LPC. At a young age of 59, Deborah entered a better world on January 26, 2011, surrounded by Love and Peace. Debby was a beloved wife, mother, sister, caretaker, and wonderful friend. She was a strong person of faith and kindness, and her kindness brought out the best in all who surrounded her. She is survived by her devoted husband, Greg of 32 years; daughter, Codi Crystal; sister, Christine Barton Collins; her sister-in-laws, Marcia Seegers, Diane Kafka; and mother-in-law, Evelyn Nottleman. The older of two daughters, Debbie Francis Barton was born on June 28th, 1951 to the late Doris Skidmore and James W. Barton in Galesburg, Ill. The family resided in Elmhurst, Illinois. Debbie graduated from York Community High School in 1969, then went on to pursue a Bachelors Degree in Education from Illinois State University, Normal. She moved to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1974, worked at Judson School for a brief time until she found her first career with Scottsdale School District. For 30 years Debbie was a teacher and counselor for many fortunate middle school children. She also worked for Banner Hospitals for 17 years as an Intake Therapist. During her two careers she earned two Masters Degrees form Arizona State University and became certified as a Professional Counselor. Her biggest personal achievement was an award for being a diabetes survivor for 50 years. Deborah will be greatly missed by all those who have been blessed to know her. Deborah's list of friends and colleagues is immense due to her involvement with Scottsdale School Districts, Banner Heath, the horse and motorcycle communities, and her husband's business. Her Daughter, Codi Crystal, was her biggest accomplishment and cherished treasure. We have lost a wonderful woman who loved all the people she met and was so essential in the lives of many children for whom she cared deeply. Deborah's selfless dedication to assist her students, family, friends or colleagues with troubles was legendary. All of us will have a special place in our hearts for this woman who immeasurably enriched our lives. A memorial will be held on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at 5:30pm at Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary, 8555 E Pinnacle Peak Rd. Scottsdale. Contributions may be made in her name to American Diabetes Association or Hospice of the Valley.

I had the pleasure of having Deborah as a regular customer at my pharmacy. She was such a sweet lady and I can easily imagine what a great teacher and couselor she must have been! Being a longtime fellow type 1 diabetic, she offered me very helpful advice. I have made a donation to the American Diabetes Association in commemoration of her.

May the many wonderful memories Debbie helped create find root in your hearts and bring sweet recollection to your minds as you both mourn and celebrate her life. I wish I could have attended "YORK AZ REUNION," had the opportunity to get to know her and see you Greg. God bless...

Mrs. Seegers was my favorite teacher. I'm going way back - over two decades to be exact - I still remember how all us kids hoped to be in her class. She was very caring to all her students and pretty darn hip for an educator.
