David Martin Dawson
Born: September 1, 1938 in Cleveland, OH
Died: January 13, 2024 in Downers Grove, IL
David M. Dawson, recently of Downers Grove, formerly of Woodridge, passed away after a long illness. Devoted husband of Jean Dawson nee Forbes; loving father of Deborah (Daniel) Dawson Goldman, Kathryn (Ian) Dawson Schoenherr, David Christopher (Lucy) Dawson and Jennifer (Joseph) Dawson Shryock; cherished grandfather of Matthew and Rachel Goldman, Andrew, David Kayleigh and Kelseyann Shryock, and Egan and Zachariah Dawson. He is also survived by five stepchildren and many grand and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on April 20 at 10:30 am at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church, 1125 Franklin St., Downers Grove IL 60515. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army, www.salvationarmyusa.org/usn/
After graduating from Cornell University, David spent several years in the Navy and was honorably discharged in 1962. He had a successful career as a mechanical engineer and software consultant. He enjoyed spending time with his family, running, playing tennis, and playing golf. He spent much of his life living in New Jersey, later moving to Woodridge, IL, where he met second wife Jean. The couple recently moved to Downers Grove to the Oak Trace Community.
