David Billings Obituary

David L. "Coach" Billings of Walloon Lake, Michigan went home to be with the Lord he loved so much on Wednesday, April 23 after a brief illness. Born and raised in Danville, Illinois, Mr. Billings was a stand-out athlete at Danville High. After serving in the Army, he attended Illinois College where he was later inducted into the IC Sports Hall of Fame. In 1949, he married Virginia Sample in Jacksonville, Illinois. He received his M.A. from the University of Illinois. A career educator, Mr. Billings taught at Bishop Hill, White Hall, and Galva, Illinois, but spent the bulk of his career as a teacher, coach, dean and guidance counselor at Glenbard West High School in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Loved and respected by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Ginny; his sons Bart and Chuck, and daughters Becky (Jon) Olson and Jan Miller; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the building fund at Walloon Lake Community Church, PO Box 35, Walloon Lake, MI 49796. Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 pm Sunday April 27, 2008 and 10 to 11 am on Monday, April 28, 2008 at the Walloon Lake Community Church A funeral service will be 11:00 am Monday, April 28, 2008 at the church. Pastor Jeff Ellis will be officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Petoskey, Michigan. Condolences can be sent to Box 385, Walloon Lake, MI 49796.
