David Murray Allers, 80, of Darien, IL, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2024. Dave was born in Los Angeles May 7, 1944, to Earl Vincent Allers and Elizabeth Wallace Warnes. He attended Onarga Military School and is a 1962 graduate of Downers Grove (North) High School. In 1966 he earned a BA at Culver Stockton College, Canton, MO, and was a proud brother of Sigma Phi Epsilon.
He celebrated a career of 50 years as an independent insurance agent in Downers Grove. The many friendships made during his career lasted a lifetime.
David was an avid and graceful skier. His service with the National Ski Patrol began in 1967 and since become a lifetime member. Dave also enjoyed a lifetime of sailing and crewed countless races out of Chicago including the Chicago Mackinac Race. He is recognized as an Island Goats Sailing Society member, logging over completing over 25 races and logging over 8,325 miles. Whatever the challenge or request, Dave gave his all. No matter the storms on the slopes or the water, he never complained and was not a quitter.
Dave is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 40 years, Joyce Allers.
He is survived by his children Deborah Lee and Kelly Kuehn; stepchildren Mark Diaz (Regina), Rebecca Diaz (Bill Perhach), Elizabeth Mykrantz, and Rachel Diaz Santos; grandchildren Dillon, Claire, Connor, John Morgan, Sarah, Madelaine, Hannah, and Gillian; great-grandson Ramzey; and sisters Susan (Craig) Cloyed and Joanne (Steven) Bina.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the National Ski Patrol to share Dave's passion for skiing and keeping the slopes safe. A celebration of life will follow in Summer 2025.
