Daniel was an accomplished businessman, mentor, and a true believer in the power of community service. Dan was dedicated to the success of small business, the charitable reach of the Rotary Club, YMCA and Plymouth Place within the LaGrange and Western Springs communities, and the success of institutions like the West Suburban Chamber of Commerce. Dan spent almost 50 years in the Independent Insurance Industry, as a small business owner and partner for a majority of that time. Most recently, Dan received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the West Suburban Chamber of Commerce. As a Father and a role model, Dan served as a coach for youth football, soccer and baseball, as well as Den Leader and Pack Leader for both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Dan has also served as a mentor for countless people in the insurance and health care industry.

Dan's lifelong involvement in the church, as a student, a partner, a teacher, and an author, helped him develop and embrace his unwavering faith in God. As dedicated as he was to his career, and community, his dedication and devotion to his family was paramount.

My prayers and condolences to the Pancake/Tapia Families. I have known Dan as long as I have known Rae (my former Boss). Dan was such a wonderful, kind-hearted gentle giant. Every time he visited CBOE, or the visits I made to their home for Rae's birthday parties in July, he wore that bright, beautiful smile that could warm any heart and entertained guests with much compassion. I thank you all for the opportunity to meet and know him. May God comfort each of you during this difficult time.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time. Dan was the sweetest and nicest man. I have such fond memories of my time with Dan, Barbara, Dan Jr., and Adam during his early years as a dad. It was so much fun to share time with them, as their babysitter, for a number of years. Watching Dan talk about them over the next 40 years, whenever I saw him, was so special. He was extremely proud of his children and wanted to tell me all about their latest accomplishments. Dan always stopped to say hi and he always had that great "Dan smile" he was so famous for. I know he is being rewarded in Heaven.
