Dana Jay Wheeler, 75, of Elgin, IL, passed away on June 15, 2023. Born in Elmira, NY on December 12, 1947, Dana grew up in Detroit, MI and was a Vietnam veteran who served in the United States Army. Dana was a welcoming and friendly person, engaging in conversation with anyone. He was generous, forgiving and brought laughter to any environment he was in.
Dana is survived by his wife, Lesley Wheeler, and his daughters, Aimee Novelli and Allison Showalter. He is also survived by his sister, Phyllis Dickie, his brother-in-law, Jim Dickie, as well as his sister-in-law, Denise Griffin, and his niece, Heather Gosling, and nephew, Jason Griffin. Dana was a devoted grandfather to Enzo, Carter, and Mia Novelli, and Lili and Ivey Showalter.
For many years Dana worshipped at Blanchard Road Alliance Church in Wheaton (Wellspring Alliance Wheaton). He was a committed Sunday school teacher, serving in many capacities at church, and mission trips. As a member of the Jaycees, Dana volunteered in the community and brought joy to others through his clowning as "Rags" the clown. Dana loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be planned in the coming months. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Parkinson's Foundation. Dana will be greatly missed by all who know him.
