Chester Harris Obituary
Chester A. Harris, Jr., age 94, longtime resident of Western Springs, passed away on June 21, 2014 in Austin, Texas.
Beloved husband of the late Olga Kuch Harris for over 50 years. Loving father of Douglas Harris (Judith Schulz) and Gayle Harris Nix (fianc Robert Lackey). Devoted grandfather of Jennifer Harris Kirby (Daniel Kirby), Jason Harris, Tabitha Harris (Michael Heldebrandt), Heather Nix, Bryan Harris (Kellie Harris), Bryan Nix and Brandon Nix. Dear brother of the late Eleanor Downey and the late Margaret Langewisch.
Chester served as a pilot in the Army Air Corps during WWII, 1st Lieutenant. He is a graduate of Northwestern University and worked as a mechanical engineer for Chicago Bridge and Iron for nearly 40 years. He is credited with 2 patents.
Visitation 4:00 to 8:00pm Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside. Funeral service 10:00am Thursday, June 26, at the First Congregational Church of Western Springs, 1106 Chestnut Street. Interment Arlington Cemetery, Elmhurst. Funeral information: 708-352-6500.
