I greatly appreciated the guidance and instruction received as a new member of the Cicero Police Department. I wasn't much older than Charlie's kids, but my 'teachers', Charlie being one of the most important helped me to become the dedicated officer/detective that I became. Although I moved on to Corporate Loss Prevention a long time ago, I tell my staff almost every day that my 'business sense' comes from that beginning and the structure and guidance I received from those very knowledgeable people! Also, it was a pleasure reconnecting with Charlie many years later during his time at Hillside as my office was nearby and I stopped in often just to talk and he always had time to spend with an 'old officer' he commanded.

Charles Janata was my first Chief in Hillside many years ago. He was a fair Chief and gave me the opportunity to advance to the detective division. He enjoyed his Wisconsin Northwoods home in Minoqua. I'm thankful he had many years after retirement to enjoy his Wisconsin home. Thank you Chief, rest in peace Sir.
