Dear Lynn, Becky, Katie & Michael,
When I was in California and missed your mom's service I felt terrible, and now I've also missed your dad's for the same reason.
It's so hard to have lost both parents. One of my fondest memories of your mom and dad was at a party many years ago when they were dancing cheek to cheek and smiling contentedly.
While no words can express the loss of your dear father, please accept my sincere condolences in this most difficult time for all of you. My thoughts and prayers and with you.......Nancy Warner

Fran, and all of the family,
Thanks to Al Jennings, I was forwarded the very sad news. As a part of the Chicago Marine family,I feel blessed to have known Bus as a proud Marine during a special time of abundant activity and great memories for Chicago Marines. My thoughts are with you now, and my prayers that you will cherish the many years of wonderful memories I know you shared. In deepest sympathy,
Cindy Waters (widow of Major General Mitch Waters)

Bishop Family
I was truly saddened to hear of Bus's passing. Margaret and I extend our heartfelt condolences. I was a young Marine infantry lieutenant colonel cast into the pond of Glenview aviators in 1987. Then-Brigadier General Bishop smoothed the seas and helped me find my way in the wing culture. Over the years, he has been a mentor and guide. We will miss this great Marine and member of the Chicago community.

This was a note I got from Roger - who was one of the Freedome Riders & Patriot Honor guard at Dad's funeral yesterday. Thank you Roger - your comments mean alot. Lynn
From Roger Treend: Dear Lynn, I am so very sorry for your loss. Your father was quite an exceptional American and a real hero to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. It is twice as humbling to stand and honor a man of such greatness when you know a family member, heaven has quite a distinguished addition. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your whole family.

To the Bishop family:
On behalf of all the Johnsons (your Walker Ave friends), we're very sorry for your loss. It's probably been over 30 years since I last saw "Mr. Bishop," but I have fond memories of him inviting our family to the air shows and picnics at the Glenview Navel Base when we were just little things ... A few memories that come to mind: I remember your dad as a fair and impartial umpire when the kids played baseball in your yard (Whiffle ball bat with tennis ball), I remember the trip our families took to Pensacola, Florida in the spring of 1969, and I especially remember those cool aviator sunglasses your dad wore when pulling up to your driveway in the 1964 Buick convertible, honking the musical-tone horn to signal his arrival. Lynn, Becky, Mike and Katie: your dad was a good neighbor and a good man to have in the neighborhood growing up.
Our sympathies to the entire Bishop family.

Charles S. Bishop will always remain in my mind's eye as a caring, bright, honorable hero whose passion for life only equal his love for his family, his friends and his Country.
May you and all who became aquainted with this giant of a man find more time to celebrate his life than to morn his passing. Lynn, Becky, Katie, Mike, you and your families remain in my thoughts and prayers.
Warmest of Regards

To everyone:
The Crosbies are very sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Uncle Bus was larger than life to us as he flew in to Patrick Air Force Base in his fighter jet. I remember throwing the baseball with him and Mike and getting excited looking at their beer can collection in the basement. I even started my own collection after that visit. Wow did I do a lot of dumpster diving for that swell hobby.
We will miss him and sorry again for your loss,
Sincerely,
Scott

Fran, was glad that Cathy and I were able to have lunch with you and Bus at Jack Bergman's Chicago Retirement event and see him in great spirits and good health. It was a great reunion event, too. We will remember him that way as well as when he was my C.O. at VMA 543,and MACG-48, Glenview. We will not be able to attend the funeral due to grandkids from WA with us for a few days.Hugs to you and your extended family. All the best to you in the future. George and Cathy Braun-send

I met the General during one of our exercises and he personally helped one of my peers with a supply problem.
It showed his imagination and his ingenuity. I laughed for a long time. We still talk about it.

Katie -
this page is such a great idea - Ilove it. I never met your Dad, but that is such a great picture of him. I am sure he was a wonderful man, and I know you will miss him. Time will help you heal, and be grateful that he got to see both of your girls before he passed. Take care and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

I remember the day he and Carol were married. Sad have to say "goodbye." Never a more handsome groom. I think my cousin Sam wrote "HE" and "LP" on the bottom of Bus' shoes.
