Catherine Weiss Obituary

Catherine J. Weiss, 91, formerly of Marcy Street, Wilkes-Barre Township, passed away on Friday evening, July 24, 2009, at the Valley Crest Nursing Home, Plains Township.
She was born Jan. 8, 1918 in Wilkes-Barre, a daughter of the late Michael and Catherine Umlah Nicklas. Mrs. Weiss was formerly employed at the Casey Hotel and the Carousel Hotel. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Wilkes-Barre Township.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Joseph T. Weiss Sr. in 1993; and by her brother, Harry Nicklas.
Surviving are her sons, Joseph T. Weiss Jr. and his wife, Dorothy, Wilkes-Barre Township, Robert J. Weiss and his wife, Antoinette, Trucksville; daughters, Sandra Lee Pius and her husband, Edward, Grandview, Mo., Janice Ann Arch and her husband, Daniel, Colchester, Conn.; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Monday at 9 a.m. from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 in St. Mary’s Church of the Maternity, 40 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre.
Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to St. Mary’s Church of the Maternity, 40 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, PA, 18702.
