Catharine Overton Obituary

Catharine Haines Overton, born December 19, 1919 in Chicago, died Friday, August 19, 2011 at the Michealsen Health Center in Batavia. Cathy, who spent much of her life in the Fox Valley, studied at Smith College and Cornell University. She was bookseller for many years at Robin's Bookshop in Geneva and was active member of Calvary Episcopal Church. An avid golfer, inveterate walker and voracious reader, Cathy will be remembered for her wry wit, generous spirit, and her uncommon ability to recommend just the right book. Cathy is survived by her loving nieces and nephews, Christopher "Kip" (Carole) of Lackawanna, N.Y., George (Sharlene) of Norridge, Ill., Monica Mutchler (Leo) of Brookfield, Wis. and Brigid Conklin (Daniel) of Albuquerque, N.M, Samuel Overton of Evanston, Ill, Peter (Susan) Overton of Berkeley, Cal. and Ann Overton of Berkeley, Cal. She is also survived by great nephews and nieces, Andrew Wyatt of Batavia, as well as Matthew Thomas, Abigail Thomas, Jamie Mills, Christopher Wyatt, Rhianna Wyatt, Catherine Wyatt, Ryan Overton and Jolyn Overton; and great-great nephews and niece, Wyatt, Molly and John Thomas. Her sister, Jean Overton Wyatt and brother, George W. Overton, preceded her in death. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Episcopal Church, 222 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia Ill. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to all the staff and volunteers at Ekstam Assisted Living and at the Michealsen Health Center and to her many dear friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Calvary Episcopal Church in her memory.
