Carol Tuffy Obituary

Former Saint Charles resident Carol Reed Tuffy, 70 , died Saturday, July 26, 2008, at home in Murphy, NC. She had fought a valiant battle with lung cancer over the past year, having survived a bout with malignant melanoma in the early 1990s. A Mass of The Resurrection will be celebrated at Saint William Catholic Church in Murphy at 10:30 am on August 14, with Inurnment to follow immediately at the Saint William Columbarium. There will also be a Celebration of Her Life following the services in the Church Commons. She was born March 28, 1938 in Geneva, IL and grew up in Wayne, IL. Carol was graduated from Elgin High School and DuPage County Community College. She pursued a career in corporate administration and personnel and worked for a number of major companies, including McGraw-Edison in Elgin, Price Waterhouse and ARCO. She retired in 1996 as co-owner, with her husband, of a yacht charter company in the British Virgin Islands. An accomplished horsewoman in her youth, Carol rode in the Wayne-DuPage Hunt, and participated in a number of Gymkhana and Horse Show events in and around Wayne. After relocating to California she learned to sail and co-owned two cruising sail boats with her husband. She was an active member of the Corsair Yacht Club at Catalina Island, CA. Her mother, Vara Reed, father Fred G. Reed and brother, James Reed, all of Saint Charles, preceded her in death. In addition to her husband, John Tuffy of Murphy, formerly of Lake Barrington Shores and Barrington Hills, IL, she is survived by her sister Lynne Schroeder of Roseville, CA, her brother Fredrick T.W. Reed of Gainesville, GA, and another brother, Robert Reed of Wayne, IL. She also leaves a son, Reed Fry and wife Kim of Irvine, CA and a daughter Chari Fry of Vero Beach, FL, as well as three step children, Moira Tuffy of Chicago, Timothy Tuffy of Barrington and AnnMarye Carnes of Cochranville, PA, three grand children including grand son Christopher Fry and grand daughter Jamie Fry of Irvine, CA, and three step grand children including Genevieve and Evangeline Tuffy of Barrington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the "Saint William Church RCIA Program, in memory of Carol Tuffy," c/o Saint William Catholic Church, PO Box 546, Murphy, NC 28906
