Carl Schupmann was born on October 3, 1930, in Carlinville, Illinois, where he grew up and attended grade school and high school before continuing his education at Blackburn College for two years. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War as a baker aboard the USS Sphinx, an LST repair ship. On June 28,1952, Carl married Wilma Jean Smith in Waverly, Illinois, before moving to his assigned Naval Base in San Diego, California.
After his enlistment period, he and Wilma moved to Owensboro, Kentucky, where he worked for Amour Meat Products as a salesman. They then moved to Normal, Illinois, in 1955, where Carl completed his bachelor's degree at Illinois State University.
In 1957, Carl began his career in education at Downers Grove High School North, where he spent more than three decades teaching history and leading the Social Studies department. In 1988, Carl retired from his post at DGHSN and in 1991, he and Wilma moved to Bradenton, Florida, to enjoy their retirement.
Carl is survived by sons Gordon (Vivian), Scott (Aileen), and David (Laurie), daughter-in-law Lynn Schupmann, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Russell, and his wife, Wilma.
The memorial service for family and friends will be conducted at Freedom Village Bradenton at 2 p.m. on October 18, 2025, with Chaplain Michael Hales officiating.
