Funeral service for Billy Cy Boyd will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Memorial Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Weldon Foster officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Musgrove-Merriott-Smith Funeral Service and Crematory. Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday 1-8 p.m., and family will greet friends 6-8 p.m.Billy died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at his home at the age of 70 after a lengthy illness from a stroke and kidney failure.The son of Lane and Delia (Busby) Boyd was born Aug. 28, 1938, in Claremore. He was from two pioneer Rogers County families, the Chamber's and the Boyd's. Billy graduated from Claremore High School in 1956, and continued his education at Okmulgee Tech graduating in 1962. Billy was a police dispatcher and ran a service station in Claremore. He went to work for Continental Oil in Ardmore; and then for North American Aviation, and continued to work for them as Rockwell and Boeing. He retired from Boeing as a maintenance electrician in 1999. Billy was a member of the UAW Local 952, and served as union rep. and comitteeman. From 1982-84, Billy served as a State Representative for Rogers County. On Feb. 13, 1965, Billy married Carol Anita Ashwood in Keefeton. Billy was a member of the Claremore Masonic Lodge and Oologah Blue Lodge, Akdar Shrine, and was a 32nd degree Mason. He enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, old western movies, and reading old western books. Billy was a member of Sageeyah Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Carol of the home; children: Lana VanVleet and husband, Pete of Claremore, Lance Boyd of Tulsa, and Leta Troxell and husband, James of Claremore; brother, Carl Boyd and wife, Sherry of Claremore; grandchildren, Andrew and William Boyd both of Tulsa, and Katherine and Robert VanVleet both of Claremore; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members that were dear to his heart.
