Betty Mae Bridges Goodman

Betty Mae Bridges Goodman passed away suddenly Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, after an illness of one week.

Born Nov. 11, 1938, in Danville, she was the daughter of the late Garland "Steve" Bridges and the late Margaret Franklin Bridges.

She lived in Pelham, N.C. during her marriage to J.D. Goodman and lived in Danville the rest of her life.

She was of the Methodist faith.

She was a graduate of G.W.H.S. class of 1959. She was a big fan of football and basketball, especially Virginia Tech, Carolina and the Washington Redskins.

She is survived by two daughters, Angela Barnwell and her husband, Francis, and Shannon Barbour and her husband, Lacy, all of Danville; one sister, Frances Bridges Jefferson, of Danville; four Grandchildren, Stacie Goodman, of Canton Ga., Chelsea Dobson, Morgan Barbour and Alison Barbour, of Danville; two nieces, Lindsey Jefferson and Emily Jefferson, both of Richmond.

In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her grandparents, John and Bettie Franklin and Ethel Mae Bridges.

Memorial services for Mrs. Goodman, will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at Norris Funeral Services Chapel, with the Rev. Charles Wickham officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, prior to the service at Norris Funeral Services Chapel.

At other times the family will be at the residence, 610 Franklin Turnpike, Danville.
