Beth Childs Hill

Beth Hill Obituary

Beth Childs Hill  Beth Childs Hill, age 86, died August 24, 2002, of causes incident to age.  Born in Gunnison, Utah on January 6, 1916 to Clifford and Lydia Childs. Beth married Lloyd K. Hill in 1942, just as World War II was beginning and soon thereafter Lloyd departed for the Burma Theatre. Their first son, Michael was born while his dad was serving his country and Beth showed her mettle by keeping the home fire burning as both mom and dad until his return from the war. She graduated from Gunnison Valley High School in 1934 and then went on to get her certification as a Registered Nurse at the LDS Hospital in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Her professional career spanned some 30 years of which the majority of time was spent at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City and then later at Cottonwood Hospital. She was liked and respected by her peers and always brought a level or professionalism to the task at hand. Throughout her life, Beth was a voracious reader of fiction, often reading a book a day. She was blessed with a very sharp mind and just a few days before she passed away she kept her son running trying to keep her supplied with reading material.  Prior to her husband passing away, she enjoyed playing golf and as a couple they enjoyed numerous trips around the West where they would play golf and relax. Her son Michael, was her "best buddy' after Lloyd died and they also had many opportunities to travel and sightsee. She was blessed with generally good health throughout her life and her mind was very sharp. She was an example to others of how to live a dignified and ethical life. She left us in the same manner that she had so consistently acted throughout her time on earth, with grace and dignity. Mom liked to say that she managed to do one of the most difficult tasks that a person could be challenged with. She raised two boys. Beth is survived by one son, William H. Hill, her sister Mrs. Jean C. Stamos (husband George), as well as her grandchildren Sam Hill and Grace Hill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd K. Hill and her son Michael L. Hill. A graveside service will be held at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 29th. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to a charity of choice as a memoriam to Beth.

We lived next door to Beth & Lloyd the whole time I was growing up. Beth was good friends with my Mom and she and Mom spent many hours visiting with each other either in Mom's kitchen or Beth's kitchen. I remember she had a great sense of humor. I'm very sorry for your loss.
