Arthur LeBeau Obituary

Arthur P. LeBeau M.D.

Arthur P. LeBeau M.D., 92, of Elmhurst, IL departed March 18, 2017.

Dr. LeBeau was the loving husband of Ruth nee Wittersheim for 62 years; beloved father of Renee, Steven (Anne) and Michael (Tamara); loving grandfather of Danielle, Dane, Olivia and Matthew. He was the son of Lucille J. (nee Lusthoff) and Dr. Albert A. LeBeau of Chicago.

After graduating from Foreman High School in 1942, due to World War II, he was enrolled in the US Navy's V12 program at The University of Notre Dame. He graduated from Loyola Medical School in 1948 and completed his internship at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. During his surgical residency at Mercy Hospital, Chicago, the US Army called him back into service for the Korean War. From 1952 through 1954, he cared for many of our Korean War's wounded in the 279th General Hospital in Osaka, Japan.

When Capt. LeBeau returned from Japan in 1955, he completed his Surgical Residency at Mercy Hospital, married his beloved Ruth and became an active member of the Surgical Staff of Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. He continued his dedication to the Hospital for 45 years. Dr. LeBeau served on many committees, was Chairman of the Department of Surgery and was a member of the Hospital's Board of Governors. In 1990 he was awarded the Medical Staff Distinguished Service Award and in 1997 the Hospital's Board of Governors Distinguished Service Award.

Art was a proud, dedicated, but very humble Doctor and had a wonderfully classic old-time doctor's bedside manner. He was loved and respected by his patients, the nurses and hospital staff because he treated everyone with respect, dedication and gratitude. He was always on duty and never complained. Whether he had been up many nights in a row, when he was called, he went! Their home was a version of today's "Urgent Care" welcoming family, friends and neighbors at all hours whether it was for a finger cut off in a snow blower, a simple ear piercing or a patient just wanting to talk.

Dr. LeBeau was an avid sportsman. He skied Vail's majestic mountains until he was 80, played golf until 83 and tennis until 85. Alzheimer's began to slowly invade his heart and soul in 2009.

I had the pleasure of knowing Dr. LeBeau during the decade I worked at Elmhurst Hospital. He was the consummate professional and a wonderful person with whom to have a conversation and to hear his views as to how to improve the quality and safety of patient care. He will be missed by many. Please accept my condolences on his passing.

Sincere condolences to the family of this wondefull man and outstanding Doctor. He invented the calm and reassuring bed side manner that many Docs try to gift their patients with, but not many as good as Dr. Le Beau.
He was our families physician for decades, my Mother worked with him at Elmhurst Memorial for many years. Many of the staff there thought he was a Saint disguised as an M. D. well, he was all the above. I can remember stopping 1 of the boys for speeding on Rt. 12 one evening, and when presented with a drivers license, I inquired further about the name and address in Elmhurst. I ended up telling the young man, that any relation of Dr. LeBeau was Exempt from getting any ticket, just slow down and stay safe. It was my good deed, for the good Doctor.....
He wil be missed by many, as he Blessed many. This time, an Angle ascended Up to Heaven.
