Ann Whitehead Obituary

Ann Holder Whitehead, age 77, went to be with our Lord October, 8, 2010. She passed away quietly at home surrounded her family and loved ones.
She was born September 8, 1933 to Kelby and Flossie Holder in Edgecombe County. She is preceded in death by seven brothers, Chesley, Bill, Mac, Brenizer, Elwood Mug and David Holder and one beloved sister, Lula Proctor and nephew Bobby Proctor.
She survived by her husband of 60 years Pete Whitehead, three children; daughter Deborah Perry and son-in-law Buddy Perry of Tarboro, NC, one son, Wayne Whitehead of Cramerton, NC; daughter Tina Barnes and son-in-law Ben Barnes of Rocky Mount. Four grandchildren; granddaughters Jennifer Jackson Whitley, and Angel Jackson Hood and husband Chris Hood of Goldsboro, grandsons; Kelly Barnes of Greenville, NC and Jon Barnes, Rocky Mount.
Ann leaves behind nieces and nephews she considered her brothers and sisters; James Proctor of Red Oak, Patsy Hart of Elm City, Lillian Enroughty of Red Oak, Richard Proctor of Rocky Mount and Dare Ford of Elm City.
Known as "Granny"; the one who "loved you the most", by her grandchildren. She made lasting memories in their hearts that will last a lifetime. Ann was devoted to her family, and will leave a legacy to her entire family as an example of a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be missed in many ways by her family and friends.
She was a member of Proctors Chapel Church and cherished her Sunday school class. Her church was a great comfort to her in her illness and last days. Ann was loved by her neighbors and regarded as "Granny" to many in her community. Ann retired from Abbots Labs in 1996. She tended her rose garden of over 25 varieties until she was unable. She enjoyed traveling and exploring new places.
The family would like to thank her care giver for the past year, Ellen Brown, who cared for her lovingly and tenderly her neighbors Charlie and Merlyn Lewis for their many acts of kindness and love and Nancy Brinkley and the Hospice of Nash General.
A life celebration will be held on Monday October 11 at 2PM in the Chapel of Johnson Funerals and Cremations English Road Chapel with the Rev. Billy Webb officiating The interment services immediately following at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at Johnson Funerals and Cremations, 661 English Rd, Rocky Mount on Sunday October 10 from 6 until 8 Pm.

Jennifer & Angel, So sorry to hear about your grandmother. I only remember meting her once but she was such a sweet lady in that one meeting. I know she will be missed by all who knew her.
