Alice Woerthwein Obituary

Alice A. Woerthwein, 97, died Thursday February 26, 2009 at the Pleasant View Center. She was born April 6, 1911 a daughter of Henry and Wilhamina Luth in Chicago, IL. She was baptized and confirmed in Hope Lutheran Church in Chicago and attended Gloria Dei and St. John's Lutheran Church in Lagrange. She graduated from Sawyer Business College and pursued her career in Chicago before meeting her husband, Fred Woerthwein. They married and settled in to raise their family. She and her late husband Fred traveled the world extensively. Alice enjoyed playing Bridge and ballroom dancing at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. She was known to their friends as "Alice Bluegown" They were the epitome of the "Greatest Generation". She volunteered and supported the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and also contributed to and supported 2 children from the Christian Childrens Fund. She raised one great grandson, Artie D'Andrea of Naperville, IL. Alice was deeply loved and adored by her family. She will be greatly missed. Alice was predeceased by her husband, Fred Woerthwein in 2005, a daughter, Lois C. Curtis in 2000; 3 grandchildren, Lisa D'Andrea, Chris Curtis and Russell Curtis; a great grandson Artie D'Andrea; four brothers and a sister. She is survived by a son, Dr. Kenneth Woerthwein and his wife Francine of Jacobus, PA; 2 daughters, Joyce Hill of Bow, NH and Karen Peckitt and her husband Fred of Wildwood, MO; 9 grandchildren, Scott and Michelle Hill and Kristin and Peter Wells all of Bow, NH and Todd and Beth Hill of North Hampton, NH, Charity and Mathew Hyde of Philadelphia, PA, Joshua Woerthwein of Stamford, CT and Amanda and Mike Pressel of East Berlin, PA, Alina and Devin Amato of Kansas City, KS, Amy and Dale Rees of Ballwin, MO and Eric Peckitt of Wildwood, MO. She is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Saturday March 7 from 2 to 3pm with a funeral service at 3:00pm at Bennett Funeral Home, 3 Church Street, Concord. Private interment will be held at Bronswood Cemetery in Oak Brook, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The Bennett Funeral Home of Concord is in charge of the arrangements.

Our deepest sympathies to the family in your loss of a loved one. Aunt Alice will always be remembered by me as one who truly cared about all members of her family. How fortunate for you who could call her "Mom". May you find comfort with those wonderful memories.
