Alice Ross Obituary

Alice Kirby Ross

Nashville, TN

Mrs. Ross passed peacefully on September 12, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth L. Ross, Sr.; her sister, Aleene Kirby and her parents, Annie Mae Kirby and Arthur Jackson Kirby.

Her surviving family includes daughter, Donna Ross Renner (Steve Renner); son, Kenneth L. Ross, Jr. (Suzanne W. Ross); grandchildren, Alice Morrison Fink (Sam Fink), Mimi Morrison Omieciniski (Steve Omieciniski), Kimberly Ross Flint (John Flint), Steven Renner, Jr. (Meg Genone Renner), and Kara Ross Conrad (Paul Conrad). Also, celebrating their Nana's life are eight great-grandchildren, Jessica Flint Weiner (Ian Weiner), Abigail Flint Gayton (Joel Gayton), Nicholas R. Flint, Elliot J. Flint, Sarah J. Garza, Stosh R. Omiecinski, Jacob E. Garza, Kathryn A. Garza, and two great-great-grandchildren, Zion D. Weiner and Ivan J. Weiner.

Alice was born in Nashville on April 28, 1925 and grew up here. She attended Isaac Litton High School where she was on the basketball team and served as a cheerleader. WWII interrupted her life and she married Lt. Kenneth L. Ross, then a flight instructor in the Army Air Corps. As his duties required, she moved with him from state to state throughout the war years until returning to Nashville. They were blessed with sixty-seven years of marriage at the time of his death.

Always active in the community, she served various organizations such as the PTA, the Daughters of the American Revolution who honored her as Regent of the General Francis Nash Chapter. She was an active member of Woodmont Baptist Church, where her service included being a teacher and on various committees throughout her church life.

After years of supporting Ken's career goals, when her children were grown, she became active in the real estate business. She achieved Life Membership in the city's Million Dollar Roundtable Club.

There will be a private family ceremony this morning for Alice to join Ken at the Middle Tennessee Veterans State Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the American Alzheimer's Association. An online guestbook is available at AustinFuneralService.com; (615) 377-0775.

Alice was my DAR mentor. A fond memory is when I was new to the chapter and she said to me "we are going to Continental Congress on the TN bus this summer, you, Ken, Keith and me." My response was "We are?" Her response was "Yes, you need to learn about all this if you are going to be our Chapter Regent". That was Alice. I so wish she would have been able to be at Continental Congress this year when I won a National DAR award for service to veterans. That award was partially hers for her encouragement and support. I will always love this great lady, and Ken, too. I miss you, Alice, Dear Friend.

I am saddened to hear about the death of Alice. She was so kind and gracious to me while I was on staff at Woodmont Baptist Church. Her beautiful smile is forever etched in my mind. Her friendship is one that I will always treasure.

Mrs. Ross was always so kind and cheerful. This is what I remember about her most.

Alice and Ken were wonderful people and I'm sorry they're gone. There was a deep connection with my family as Alice was in my Grandmother's Bible Class at Woodmont Baptist back in the day. When I started back to Woodmont in 2000 she called me aside, opening her Bible, she showed me a 50 year old picture of Mary Fulcher, my Grandmother, and told me how much she had meant to her, even all these years later. I know the past few years have not diminished the memories of the grace and joy Alice and Ken poured into your lives and the lives of those around them. They add a real attraction to Heaven and I pray that your family will have God's grace and peace that you need as you move forward with your lives.

All my prayers and sympathy to the family of this gracious lady.

I lived down the street from Kenneth when he was in high school and remember when he and Alice married.
