Agnes M. Elden-Maxson

Agnes M. Elden-Maxson, nee Marty, longtime resident of Elmhurst, born February 28, 1912, in Pana, Illinois, the daughter of Charles Joseph Marty and Marie C. Weiss Marty. She graduated from Pana Township High School, attended Brown's Business College in Decatur, Illinois.

In 1941 she married William Robert Elden, Jr. former Elmhurst City Engineer who served as a Captain with the U.S. Army combat engineers in the European Theatre during WWII. During the war, Mrs. Elden-Maxson was the first woman to be hired in the accounting office of Gauger and Diehl in Decatur, Illinois. In 1980, she married Raymond D. Maxson, retired Senior Vice President with Commonwealth Edison, Trustee of Elmhurst Memorial Hospital and Chairman of the Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Her business career spanned some fifty years as an accountant, office manager and executive secretary. She was associated with Elmhurst Memorial Hospital for 45 years through employment and volunteer work. She was a resident of Elmhurst, Illinois since 1960.

She was preceded in death by her son, William Robert Elden III; her husbands, William Robert Elden, Jr. and Raymond D. Maxson; her brothers, Father Dominic Charles Marty, Bernard (the late Dolores) Marty, John (the late Elaine) Marty; and her sisters, Cecilia (the late Arthur) Dougherty, Sister Mary Carl Marie Marty (O.P.), Gertrude M. (the late Corwin) Carey and Mildred (the late Marvin) Knoblich.

All who knew her will remember her generous volunteer activities which included serving many years as the Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Guild Remembrance Fund Chairman, being a member of The Hospice volunteer program and The Resource Center, teaching for 20 years with Religious Education Program at Immaculate Conception Church, membership with the National Council of Catholic Women and the School on Wheels (Laubaugh Program) and as a leader of the Women's Discussion Group.

Eighteen nieces and nephews; fifty-six great-nieces and nephews; twenty-nine great-great-nieces and nephews; two stepsons; five step-grandchildren; and eleven step-great-grandchildren, survive her.

Visitation at Ahlgrim Funeral Home, 567 S. Spring Rd., Elmhurst from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 20. Prayers 9:00 a.m. Friday, November 21, at the funeral home, going to Immaculate Conception Church, Elmhurst where a Catholic Mass celebrating her life will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. by Fr. John Balluff.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials will be appreciated for Catholic Charities or Immaculate Conception Church. Interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
