On Monday, November 13, 2023, Linda-Louise (Buklad) Schmidthuber passed away at the age of 78. Her departure leaves a void in the countless hearts enriched by her camaraderie, laughter and love. Services will be held on December 14, 2024, from 12pm - 3pm, at Kuratko-Nosek Funeral Home (2447 Des Plaines Ave, North Riverside, IL 60546.)
Linda was born in Miami Beach, Florida, and left her home town to live with her Grandma Bernardo while attending college. After earning her degree in Liberal Arts, she joined the westward migration of the '60s to San Francisco during its heyday and the cultural revolutions. In the Bay-Area community, she formed many lasting friendships and had the opportunity to meet well-known entertainers during their formative years. Linda spent time working for Levi Strauss, and as an entrepreneur doing interior remodeling and decorating.
She later moved to Illinois to raise her two sons, and worked for a local library. She was a lifelong volunteer for animal welfare and later the law-enforcement community. Her work with local animal shelters led to the rescue and adoption of over 300 cats & dogs in need. She gave much of her time as a volunteer for her local police department, until procuring a role as an auxiliary traffic officer before her retirement.
She also enjoyed reading from her extensive library, working on various crafts, and creating decorations and clothes with her prized Singer sewing machine. An avid music fan, she listened to many bands both old and new, and attended a range of live shows from Carol Burnette to Ozzfest. She enjoyed many daytrips and travels with her closest friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Elea Buklad (Bernardo), her brother, John Viano and her ex-husband Jerome.
She is survived by her two children, Brett and Andi Schmidthuber, her nieces, and her close friends, including JoAnne Walker, Rhonda Romero, Rodney Hurd, Sheldon Harrison, Kathy Borucki Mastej, Amanda Carelli, Kyle Cronin, Sean Markel, Faruk and Tarik Rahmanovic, Rick and Sandy Toman, among many others.
Linda will be fondly remembered as a radiant and sharp-witted friend, loving mother, and supportive figure who could brighten anyone's day. She encouraged others to think outside the box and stay true to themselves. In life, she reminded us not to mourn her, but to celebrate her. She is missed by all who knew her with a shared hope that we'll be reunited some day, and somewhere, over the rainbow.
