Dorothy Comini Obituary

Dorothy J. Comini, 88, of Herminie, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Dec. 6, 1937, in Darragh. Daughter of the late Nicholas and Katie (Altpeter) Karr. She was a 60-plus-year member of St. Edward Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir and served as a cantor. Dorothy loved everyone: family, friends, and those she met. She had an amazing personality, a beautiful smile, and great wit. Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. They lovingly called her "The Queen," and she proudly displayed her tiara. She absolutely loved yard-selling, thrifting at Goodwill, and eating out at Cracker Barrel. She enjoyed shopping, winning at Scrabble, and collecting knickknacks, each one holding a special story. She was lovingly known as the "Grandma of Limerick Hill," a name earned by the many children who flocked to her home to play. She was a creative cook who always made sure there was something on the table for everyone to enjoy. Her home was a place where all were welcome, and she happily hosted every holiday, birthday, and family gathering. Bringing people together was one of her greatest joys. She canned vegetables from the garden, made grape jelly, and baked homemade bread. When times were tough, she baked fresh desserts to pack in her children's lunches every day. Later in life, she enjoyed traveling: a tour of the West, a trip to Austria, a bus trip to Branson through the church, and a trip to Maine (and Broadalbin, NY) to visit daughter Joan and son, Phil. (She cherished the time spent at the cottage, "Fernstone," in Farmington. She was preceded in death by both parents; her loving husband of 66 years, Philip Comini; and brothers and sisters, Wesley, Robert, Homer, Nicholas, Clinton, George, Russell, Walter, Katherine, Anna, Romayne, Frank, Naomi, Theodore, and Robert. She is survived by her children, her "darlings," Philip (Lynette) Comini II of Broadalbin, NY, Leni (Anthony) Shuster of N. Huntingdon, Mark A. (Doreen) Comini of West Newton, Joan (Chuk) Molluly, Corea of Maine, Thomas Comini of Herminie, Vincent Comini of Herminie, Margaret (Mark) Schulte of New Stanton, Ward (fiancee, Anita) Comini of Delmont, Matthew (Kerrie) Comini of Somerset, Charles (Annie) Comini of Hutchinson; and special daughter-in-law, Kathleen Comini of Jeannette; 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren with four on the way; and two great-great-grandchildren. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at BEATTY-RICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 136, Madison, Ronald A. Rich Jr., Supervisor/FD. A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2026, at St. Edward Catholic Church, 120 Saint Edward Lane, Herminie, PA 15637, with Rev. David J. Nazimek officiating. Those wishing to attend the Mass for Dorothy are asked to go directly to the church. Interment will follow at the West Newton Cemetery in West Newton. You enjoyed long walks when you were young and picked fruit for pies and preserves! You often mentioned Reservoir Road as one of your favorite haunts! Those were the good old days when we grew our own food and picked the fruit that nature supplied us! You enjoyed cooking & baking and did an excellent job while having so many mouths to feed. But you did it!!!
