David Dobson Obituary
BREWSTER - David Dobson, 85, of Brewster, N.Y., died on January 19, 2026, due to complications of cancer and Parkinson's disease.
Born in Claverack, N.Y., on January 22, 1940, to John and Blanche (Avery) Dobson, he attended Kings College in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., where he met his wife, Joanne Abele.
In his career with the New York State Department of Social Services, Dave led the development of the State's transition from paper food stamps to a debit card-based system. Dave went on to oversee EBT implementation projects in several other states with Citibank. After retirement, Dave's involvement in disaster relief work took him on two dozen service trips to Sri Lanka, Haiti, and the Gulf Coast.
Dave is survived by his wife, Joanne; his children, Elisabeth Kohomban (Jeremy), David Dobson (Myriam), and Rebecca Cosgrove (Bill); his five beloved grandchildren; and his sister, Sallee Dunton.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Dave's life on Saturday, January 31st at 2:00 p.m. at Katonah Presbyterian Church, 31 Bedford Road, Katonah, N.Y.

In everything he did, Pops was driven by the desire to help others. His fierce opposition to injustice never wavered with age. I am immensely grateful to have grown up with such a model for down-to-earth humanism.
I will miss him more than I can say, but I am comforted by the fact that the impact of his actions, and his love for family and strangers alike, will be felt through time.
