William Bryant Obituary

William Charles Bryant, Jr.

May 21, 1947 - January 29, 2026

William Charles Bryant, Jr., 78, passed away on January 29, 2026, after several months of declining health. He was called to leave his earthly life and continue his spiritual journey with his Lord and Savior.

Born May 21, 1947, to the late Dorothy Irving Bryant and William Charles Bryant, Sr., William spent his childhood on his grandparents' farm, where he developed a lifelong love of nature, creativity, and family.

Known affectionately as "Boya" and later "Bo," he was recognized early for his artistic talent. He studied art throughout high school, played trumpet in the band, and later attended Harris Art School and the Columbus, Ohio School of Art.

His studies were interrupted by service in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, where he served near Da Nang. After returning home, William continued his art career, working as a stained glass designer in North Carolina and Virginia. His work can be found in churches and other sites across the country. He later founded Bryant Sign Art, producing signage and promotional artwork in Florida and beyond.

During his time in Jacksonville, he reconnected with Vickie McVey Bryant. They married on August 24, 1999, in Carthage, N.C., and built their life together.

William is survived by his wife, Vickie Bryant; stepson, Thomas Plyler of Asheville, N.C.; sister, Ann Coker (George) of Roswell, Ga.; niece, Catherine Shaifer (Adam) and their three children; and many other relatives and friends.

His Navy service was in Cua Viet, near the northern border of South Viet Nam, moving ammunition to the Marines and Army personnel fighting there. Many times the boats were hit by enemy fire. His service was honorable; his heart was opposed to war. He is missed.
