Patton, Gary Alvin

Gary Alvin Patton, 76, a life-long Tustin resident, devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully in Santa Ana on Thursday, July 2, 2015. He was born on July 26, 1938 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Orange to Kenneth Alvin and Mary (Boyd) Patton.

Growing up in Tustin and Santa Ana, he attended Tustin Elementary and Tustin High Schools. In June, 1956 he joined the Navy where he proudly served in the South China Seas aboard the Heavy Cruiser USS Rochester for two years. He was Honorably Discharged and returned to Tustin in 1959. In October of that year his uniform caught the attention of a former classmate, Dorothy Ann Lindsay, and they began dating. Gary and Dorothy were married in the Reformed Presbyterian Church of Santa Ana on August 5, 1961, and made Tustin their home.

Gary was a forklift driver for Steelcase, Inc. in La Mirada, and later Tustin for over 25 years. Outside of work he enjoyed spending time camping and fishing with his family, archery, woodworking and motorcycling. His love of motorcycles led him to purchase a Honda Goldwing in the mid-80's and tour the country. In retirement he enjoyed family gatherings at Easter and Christmas Eve, traveling with Dorothy, and teaching his granddaughters to fish.

Gary's memory will be kept alive through the family and friends he leaves behind, which includes sons, Mark Alvin (Joy), Anaheim, David Allen, Murrieta, Scott Edward (Wendy), Star, Idaho, Erick Steven (Jennifer), Orange; sister, Mary (Allen) Anglin, Branson, Missouri; brother-in-law, Paul Lindsay, Tustin; 10 grandchildren and 1 step grandchild.
