Nial "Butch" Wilford Dowler Jr., aged 75, of Layton, Utah, passed away on January 29, 2026, in Clearfield, Utah. He was born on June 24, 1950, in Columbus, Ohio, to Nial Wilford Dowler and Ella Mae Fowler.
Butch had a distinguished life marked by service to his country, having proudly served in the Coast Guard along with his military training which held a special place in his heart. He was known for displaying the American flag with pride and was actively involved in the Veterans Association.
On October 4, 1997, Butch married Lynette and they shared many joyful years together. The couple moved through several states, including Ohio, Virginia, and Utah, establishing roots and creating cherished memories.
He enjoyed a variety of pastimes, including NASCAR, football, baseball, camping, fishing, off-roading, and model building. Butch also had a passion for cooking and was known for putting up spectacular Christmas lights that could be seen from the runway by passing jets.
He is survived by his beloved wife Lynette, son Robert and his wife Richelle, daughter Theresa Dowler, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, two sisters, one brother, three sisters-in-law, and three brothers-in-law. Butch was preceded in death by his first wife Margaret Dowler, as well as his parents.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to family and friends, the physicians who cared for Butch, the staff at Holy Cross Davis Hospital, and a special thank you to the staff at Rocky Mountain Care Center and hospice for their compassion and support during this time.
Nial Wilford Dowler Jr.'s memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the LDS Church, 150 North 3200 West, Layton, Utah.
