Verletta Moon Obituary

Verletta J. Moon, age 69, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026 at her home in Concordia, KS surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on Aug. 16, 1956, in Mitchell, SD to Norman and Ivadell (Hein) Christian. She married Paul D. Moon on Mar. 15, 1974, in Belleville, Ks and to this union two children were born.

Verletta attended several different schools while growing up starting out in Algona, Iowa, then on to Clay Center, KS. and McPherson, KS. before graduating with the class of 1975 at Concordia, Ks.

Verletta was very much dedicated to her faith and the Catholic Church. She was a greeter at Sunday Mass and considered it a privilege to have had the opportunity to teach 1st grade religious education classes for 13 years. She always liked sharing interesting stories that the kids had told her over the years. She also took part in weekly Adoration for 14 years and a member of the Alter Society and helped with the serving of funeral dinners.

Verletta was the manager at Bostwicks clothing store and later opened her own clothing store called Image Apparel. While operating Image Apparel she was awarded the Chamber of Commerce Businessperson of the Year. She later went to work for the Catholic Church managing the Catholic Thrift Store for 14 years and during that time was awarded for the second time the Chamber of Commerce Businessperson of the year. Verletta also served on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. After her retirement she enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sports and activities.  She also loved playing bingo, especially with her two partners, Luise and Cindy.

Verletta was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.

She is survived by her husband, Paul, Concordia, KS; daughter, Jina Moon, Manhattan, KS; son, Nathan Moon, Peoria, AZ; grandchildren, Jaden & Brenan Moon, Manhattan, KS; siblings, Cynthia A. (Mike) Fazel, Concordia, KS, Donavan D. Christian, Manhattan, KS, Clinton M. Christian, Superior, NE Michelle L. (Rodney) Klinkner, Manhattan, KS and Janet E. (Jeff)Bergeson, Salina, KS; brothers in law, Lowell Moon, Concordia, KS & Dale Moon (Lisa), Amarillo, TX; sister in law, Reva Blochlinger (Dennis), Concordia, KS & several nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Verletta was preceded in death by her parents, Norman & Ivadell and her parents in law.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am, Monday, February 2, 2026, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia with Fr. Joseph Kieffer officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, February 1, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 6 pm and the family will greet friends following the rosary all at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home. Burial will take place at St. Concordia Cemetery, Concordia, KS.
