Markiewicz Funeral Home, P.C. - Lemont Obituary

Richard J. Jakusz, Jr., age 64, of New Lenox, Illinois passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2021, surrounded by his family after a five and a half year battle with cancer.  He was born on June 22, 1956 in Hinsdale, Illinois, the son of Richard and Irene Jakusz.

Graduate of Lemont High School in 1974, and went on to earn a degree in electrical engineering, which inspired his lifelong career as a respected business owner and provider for his family.  He married his high school sweetheart, Marianne Bracken, and they had three children.  Rich’s passion was spending time with his family and he enjoyed participating in many sports, but more importantly, coaching and watching his children and grandchildren’s athletic endeavors.  Rich is a member of the Lemont High School Hall of Fame, having earned ten varsity letters in baseball, basketball, football, and track and field, and his three children, whom he all coached, played college sports at DePaul University and Washington University in St. Louis.  Whenever, possible, Rich would spend time on the golf course with his son, Ryan, and in the winter months or at family gatherings, could be found at a euchre table.

Preceded in death by his parents, Irene (nee Grabos) Jakusz and his father Richard Sr.

Rich is survived by his wife of over forty-two years, Marianne (nee Bracken), his children, Dana, Kara (Christopher) Starshak, and Ryan, and “Jaja’s” loving fan club, Henry, C.J., Claire and Kyle.  He is also survived by his brothers Daniel (Bonnie) and Paul (Tracy) and many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, brothers and sisters in law, and many cherished friendships.

Rich was a humble leader, kind, and loved by all who met him.  He believed in working his hardest and giving his all, which he proudly did for his family, on the playing field, and throughout his battle with cancer.  Loving husband, father and grandfather.  Our hero.  Love you bunches.

Not sure what to say?

A deep sadness overcame me when I heard about Rich. Five and a half years battling cancer shows what a warrior Rich was. My heartfelt sympathies to Marianne and the entire Jakusz family.

Marianne and family,
My grief and pain is hard to measure . I love and will miss you, Rich. You were like a brother to me. Pam and I will remember you fondly.
Jim and Pam Driscoll

Marianne, I was so sorry to hear of Rich losing his battle with cancer. I pray that you will find comfort, and in time joy from the many precious memories that you and Rich shared over your 42 years together. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Love, Chris

Rich will be so sadly missed by those of us lucky enough to work him with the CMMs and got to have a wonderful relationship with him and Ryan. No matter how bad Rich felt, he always had a smile (even thru the mask you could tell he was smiling) and always said he was feeling good and gaining weight even though he was thinner than the last visit. He was like a favorite uncle that you look forward to seeing or just hearing their voice. When he found out my daughter had cancer he was so...

So saddened by the loss of such an important family member. I always looked up to the man he was and considered him a not just and Uncle but also a friend.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the whole Jakusz family.

Rick gave anyone he was talking to his full and warm attention. A loving father, brother, husband, uncle, and grandfather, his ready smile welcomed us all. Our family's thoughts and prayers are with your family. He was a man of grace.

Gratitude Arrangement

We can't express in words how saddened we are to hear about Rich. We will always remember him as a very kind and loving person. From the early grade school days through high school and beyond our memories will stay with us forever. Rich was a leader, achieving whatever he set his mind to. He set the bar high for those that followed him.
Marianne, and family, we hope all of your treasured memories bring you comfort in this time of sorrow. We send our love and prayers to you. Rich...

Mari - I was so saddened to hear of Rick's passing. He certainly fought the good fight, and so did you. Sincere condolences and hugs to you and your family. Love, Pat
