Phillip Jenkins Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wright Funeral Home on Jan. 27, 2026.
Phillip Morris Jenkins, 87, passed away peacefully at his home in Topeka, Kansas, on January 22, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on August 15, 1938, in Linneus, Missouri, to Jack and Hazel Jenkins. Phillip graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in mechanical engineering. He spent much of his professional career at Western Resources while simultaneously farming his family land in Sumner, Missouri. After retiring at the age of 59, Phillip devoted himself fully to farming.

Phillip is survived by his wife, Louise Jenkins; his daughter, Susan Jenkins; his granddaughter, Julianne VanRheenen and her husband, David; his grandsons, Matthew Rader and Jake Carson; and his great-granddaughter, Sloane VanRheenen.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Jenkins Carson; his brother, Paul Jenkins; his sister, Sharon Whitmore; his parents, Jack and Hazel Jenkins; and his dog, Roxy.

Phillip's wish was to remain at home in his final days; his incredible caregiver, Whitney Dagenhardt, made that possible.

Phillip will be fondly remembered for his generosity, as well as his love of farming, road trips, and classic country music; his spirit lives on in his beloved '58 Impala.

A visitation will be held at Wright Funeral Home in Brookfield, Missouri, on January 31, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM followed by a burial in Elmwood Cemetery in Linneus, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Steps of Faith in Phillip's honor.

Dearest Louise, Phil´s suffering and the suffering you endured watching and caring for him is over. His heavenly reward and no tears, no pain-his faith in GOD has taken him to his eternal home with the Lord.
Peace be with you and your family you have lived the life of the faithful servant that GOD intends us to live. Thank you for being a loving model for us all. Love Connie

I worked with Phil @ Westar Energy and then became better acquainted with he and Louise from Countryside United Methodist Church after both of us retired. Phil was thought of highly @ both places. I crossed paths with both he and Louise recently @ Dennys. It was always a pleasure to see them. May his soul rest in peace.

As the bird free of its cage seeks the heights, so the Christian soul in death flies home to God.

With sympathy and prayers to Louise and family,
