Mary Katherine Dalton was a twenty-one-year-old young woman with a lot of dreams and desires. As a young girl she was always drawn to beautiful things like flowers, butterflies and sunsets. She also loved nothing more than playing in the mud and climbing trees. She always loved other people and always wanted to do that special thing for you to brighten your day. From the first time she met you she was deeply and genuinely interested in your life. Once she knew you, she never forgot about you. She always looked forward to the next time she could connect with you in a real and meaningful way. So many times, throughout her life, I have seen her think of others before she thought of herself. So many times, I have seen her sacrifice her own interest and needs to put someone else's needs first. She believed in being fiercely true to who you are and never compromising on what you believe, no matter the cost. From the age of ten until she graduated from high school, she ran a jewelry construction and sales empire known as the "The Kat's Bag". Some of you reading this will have no doubt done business with her. After entering college, she became interested in cars and eventually took a job in the automotive repair business working long days and getting dirty. When I asked her why she said, "I just want to see how it all works". This ignited a desire to become a millwright. She wanted to travel all over the United States working on large construction projects. So, she did just that! During one of my last conversations with her she said she wanted to begin to develop a real estate rental business that she could grow into her future career, and I believe she would have done it because underestimating her resolve was an error in judgment. Mary Katherine was one of the most fearless and passionate people I have ever known. As believers we serve a sovereign and loving God who is faithful in all things. Psalm 139:16 says that "Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be." For now, we simply morn this sacrifice that we are called to endure because even though we do not fully understand it, there is a purpose in it. Mary Katherine will be missed by so many people because she was so uniquely and unapologetically herself.
Mary Katherine was preceded in death by her grandfather, Bobby Joe Espy and her grandmother, Eloise Dalton.
