Martin Barrett Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home on Dec. 19, 2025.
Martin "Marty" John Barrett, age 90, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. Marty was born on April 18, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York to Catherine (Shannon) and Patrick J. Barrett. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis (Bollaert); his parents, siblings, grandson Vincent Gagliardi, Jr. and son-in-law Vincent Gagliardi. Marty is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Ramona Marie (Houle); daughter Kate Gagliardi, and son's John (May), William (Joyce), and Robert (Sheryl) Barrett along with step-daughters Stacy (Robert) Schrofer, Lori (Patrick) Bauernfeind, Lisa (Chris) Kline, and Jacqueline (Brian) Krech; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, dear friends and family.

Marty spent his early years in Brooklyn, joined the U.S. AirForce and served during the Korean War. Marty then married his first wife, Phyllis, where they raised 4 children in Staten Island. During his career, he proudly worked his way up to Vice President of Operations of Market Data which supported the New York Stock Exchange until his retirement. Marty and Phyllis retired to both Naples, Florida and his beloved river home near Beach Lake, Pennsylvania. After the passing of his first wife, Marty met and married Ramona in 2000. During their 25-year marriage, they lived a wonderful life at both Hunters Ridge Golfing Community and the last 15 years at Vi at Bentley Village. He was a member of the Saturday morning "No Name Club", volunteer at the Bentley Thrift Shop, Men's Golf, Couples Golf, "Waterboy", and even had the opportunity to participate in the Veteran's Honor Flight to Washington D.C. with fellow Veterans of Bentley Village.

Marty was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He enjoyed spending time with family, friends, golfing, traveling, and especially spending time with family at the cottage in Pennsylvania – taking naps in his hammock by the Delaware River, mowing the lawn, or eating lunch in the Gazebo. He was a truly kind man who loved to help others.

Marty will also be remembered as a dedicated servant and man of God. He was deeply committed to his Catholic faith, church and family. He was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, and was honored to serve as a Eucharistic minister.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and caregivers at NCH Hospital & Clinic, The Bentley Care Center, and AVOW Hospice. So many family members and friends accompanied, prayed, and cared for Marty during his last challenging months. The generosity and support were overwhelming and will never be forgotten.

A Celebration of Life will held at Vi at Bentley Village in the East Clubhouse – Palmetto Room on Saturday, December 20, 2025 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

A private interment service will be held with family in New York.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a tribute donation to the Hospice Program AVOW Hospice at 1095 Whippoorwill Lanes, Naples, FL 24105.
