JoAnn "Jody" Matthews, 90, of Plainview passed away on January 26, 2026. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview, Texas. Interment will follow at Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.
A visitation will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026 from 6-8pm at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview, Texas.
JoAnn was born on September 18, 1935 to Charles and Lela Collier. Known for her incredible meals, she enjoyed serving family and friends with her delightful dishes and home cooked meals. Her artistic spirit soared through her paintings and poetry, which beautifully reflected her love for life. A nurturing soul, JoAnn had a knack for tending to not only her garden but also to the stray pets that found their way to her door, always sharing her compassionate heart. She raised her children in a faith-based household that emphasized the importance of loving the Lord and tending to the needs of those around her selflessly. Her nurturing spirit touched everyone she met, and her home was a sanctuary of comfort and kindness.
JoAnn is preceded in death by her husband, Billy Clay Matthews Sr. parents; Charles and Lela Collier, daughter; Monica Lyn Matthews, and grandson; Brayden Thad Matthews.
JoAnn is survived by her children; Melissa Young and husband Coleman of Muleshoe, Michele Tatum and husband Nathan of Amarillo, Clay Matthews Jr. and wife LeAnn of Amarillo, Michael Matthews and wife Terrie of Bushland, Mark Matthews and wife Dee of Longview and Mitchell Matthews and wife LaViza of Amarillo, grandchildren; Lacie and Landon Duffield, Matthew and Andrea Young, Benjamin and Cassie Young, Rena and Trey Southern, Tamera and TJ Beckerink, Alex Tatum, Krista and Tradd Hesson, Tyson and Misty Hawkins, Teysha and Jordan Cornelius, Ali and Zeus Parker, Trey and Giselle Matthews, Kacie Matthews, Eric Matthews, Tyler Matthews and Blake Matthews, Ross Hollingsworth, Ransom Hollingsworth, McKenna and Kendra Hernandez, Annie and Braxton Kashan, great-grandchildren; Paxton Duffield, Brantley Duffield, Paisley Duffield, and Elsie Duffield, Audrey Young, Jacob Young, Tinsley Young, Creed Kirby, Kizer Kirby, Tyler Southern, Warren Southern, Maycee Southern, Monica Beckerink, Luke Beckerink, Freya Hesson, Rylee Rue, Ryan Hawkins, Riker Hawkins, Remmington Hawkins, Hadlee Cornelius, Hudson Cornelius, Hollis Cornelius, Zali Parker, Sage Kashan, Riley Kashan, and Mercedes Hernandez.
