Herman Sloan, 92, of
Bonner Springs, Kansas, passed away at his home on Saturday, January 17, 2026, Herman's life began on January 25, 1933, in
White Mills, Kentucky. He later made his way to the Kansas City area in the 1960s, eventually settling in Bonner Springs in 1972. It was there, alongside his cherished late wife, Doris Jean Hodges Sloan, that they built their home and lovingly raised their family.
Herman contributed many years of service in public utilities construction. Following his retirement in the 1990s, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish his own successful lawn care business. Beyond his professional endeavors, Herman's greatest joys were found in the simple pleasures of life, especially in the company of his family. He held a deep affection for fishing, a passion he enthusiastically shared and instilled in his children and grandchildren, fostering in them a profound love for lake life. Herman also found great enjoyment in the camaraderie and excitement of bingo.
Herman was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris Sloan, in 2019. He leaves behind a rich legacy through his five devoted children: Jerry Sloan and his wife Peggy of Saint Joseph, Missouri; Carol Millsap and her husband Bill of Edwardsville, Kansas; Linda Kilgore of Olathe, Kansas; Anita Stafford and her husband Ray of Lansing, Kansas; and David Sloan of Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. He is also survived by his sister, Shirley Kiper of Basehor, Kansas, as well as a sprawling and loving family tree including 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to a Visitation on Wednesday evening, January 21, from 6 to 8 PM at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in
Bonner Springs, Kansas. Funeral services to celebrate Herman's life will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, January 22, also at the funeral home. Following the service, Herman will be laid to rest beside his wife at the Bonner Springs Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests memorial contributions be made to HCA Midwest Health, Hospice and Family Care, in care of the funeral home. Your support will help continue the compassionate care Hermann received.
