Hannah Marie Hallman Obituary

Johannah "Hannah" Marie Hallman, 56, died Sunday, October 3, 2021, at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in Burlington, Iowa. She spent her final days surrounded by her large, loving family.
Born February 7, 1965, at Mercy Hospital in Burlington, she was the daughter of William Lee Hallman and M. Diane Wilson Mansheim. She married Charles Burm on December 31, 2007, in Chicago, IL.
Hannah graduated from Notre Dame High School in Burlington in 1983 and earned a B.A. in Journalism/Advertising from Western Illinois University in 1991.
She previously worked for The Hawk Eye newspaper and also authored articles in various publications. Hannah wrote the first booklet on von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) syndrome, which was used to inform families affected with the disease. She and her family were also supporters of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
She had various jobs throughout the years. She was certified as a peer support specialist providing mental health services, most recently at Hope Haven Area Development Center at the Lee County Drop-In Center.
She was close with her only child, born in 1988, and was extremely proud of Samantha for her strength and accomplishments. Hannah was known for her keen sense of humor and great laugh. She enjoyed reading, art and design, shopping, and travel. She enjoyed visiting with family and friends.
She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish in West Burlington and founded the parish's Saint Dymphna Guild, a faith-based mental health support group honoring the Patroness Saint of Those Afflicted with Nervous and Emotional Illness.
Survivors include her husband, Charles of Burlington; daughter, Samantha Nordstrom of Des Moines, IA; parents, Diane and Robert Mansheim of Burlington; three sisters, Julie Cook of Omaha, NE, Heidi Hallman (Tim) Brown of Burlington, and Amanda (Rodney) Brent of Gladstone, IL; three brothers, Robert (Kimberlee) Mansheim of Fort Madison, IA, Joseph Mansheim of Fort Madison, and Edward (Amanda) Mansheim of Burlington; aunts, Elizabeth (Tim) Buhmeyer, Margaret Pettit, Melissa (Pat) Mulholland, Sarah (Mike) Wilson-Benninghoven, and Barbara Wilson, all of Burlington; 18 nieces and nephews, Edana (Kelly) Delagardelle, Caleb Carlson, Alyssa (Tyler) Davin, Brent and Rachel Cook, Brandon Brent, Madeline (Braeden) Reed, Mitchell, Jackson, and Spencer Brent, Maxwell and Judith Mansheim, Derreck (Ginna) Mansheim, Micaela (Tom) Bourgeois, and Andrew (Brittany), Keegan (Kassidy), Liandra, and Robin Mansheim; seven great-nieces and great-nephews; and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father; two brothers, Curtis Anthony Hallman and Matthew William Hallman; grandparents; and two aunts.
A rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet will be recited at 3:00 PM, Friday, October 8, 2021 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home, 3940 Division Street in Burlington, followed by the family receiving friends until 7:00 PM.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 9, 2021 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 700 Division Street, Burlington, with Father James Flattery as the Celebrant. A reception will follow at the St. John's Church cafeteria.
Cremation will be entrusted to Prugh Crematory following the funeral. Burial will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Burlington.
