Griffith William “GW” Francis, a prominent Monmouth educator, farmer and landowner, passed away peacefully to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the age of 82.

GW was born May 17, 1943, in Monmouth, IL, the son of John and Evelyn (Norman) Francis. He was raised and educated in Monmouth. He graduated from Monmouth College in 1965 and later earned both his Master’s Degree and Specialist’s Degree from Western Illinois University. He dedicated more than 20 years of service teaching Gifted and Talented students at United Township High School in East Moline. Following his retirement from education, he joined his father, John Francis, full-time in farming, continuing to expand their acreage until his passing.

He is survived by his cousin, Peggy Keim Nimmo; her children, David (Ashleigh) Bryan and Ellen Meling Nimmo; grandson, Greyson; who will cherish his memory. He also leaves behind many lifelong friends who will honor him, including a special friend, Sherry Greenlief, who made it possible for him to remain in his beloved home – one that he renovated with his own hands, love and taste – during his later years.

G.W. was preceded in death by his parents and his infant sister, Connie Kay Francis, aunts and uncles.

G.W. deeply loved life and left a lasting impression on his students and everyone he met. Knowing him was a unique experience, and he will not be easily forgotten. His was a life well lived, and now he rests in God’s hands and reunited with his parents once again.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 4:00-6:00 pm, Thursday, February 5, 2026, at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL. Cremation has been accorded.
