Geraldine " Gerry " Ann Savel (nee McCarthy), age 85, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. She is survived by her children, Karen Wilson-Michalski (David), Sharon Liszak (the late Tim), Frank Savel (Laura), Jean Loeser (Tim) and Steve Savel (the late Kristina); grandchildren Rodney Wilson ( Shauna), Eric Savel (Star), Tyler Liszak ( Annie), Tara Powers, Devin Liszak, Adam Savel (Teresa), Tatem Savel, Kristen Savel, Josiah Savel and John Savel. Beloved step grandchildren; Anna Meyers ( Brandt), John Michalski and Lexi Dudek. Great grandchildren: Avalynn, Declan Liszak and the late Wyatt Liszak, Liam Wilson, Aspyn Liszak and Emmett Klimczyk, Tobias, Dismas and Sebastian Savel.She also leaves behind her brother Thomas McCarthy; sister- in -laws Marie McCarthy and Shirley Urbanek.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Frank P. Savel Jr., and brothers James McCarthy and John "Jack" McCarthy; grandson Wyatt Liszak.
Gerry was born to the late Martin and Veronica (nee Smith) McCarthy in Cleveland, Ohio on September 4, 1940. She was the only girl in the family with three brothers. She attended St. Vincent De Paul and St. Joseph Academy in Cleveland, Ohio. She met her future husband while attending high school. They lived in the same area and met each other through mutual friends. They married on June 25, 1960, at St. Vincent De Paul Church in Cleveland. As their family grew, they decided to move to Avon Lake in 1978.
Gerry was a wonderful mother and homemaker. When the youngest child Steve was in school full-time, she gained employment as a cook for the Avon Lake Schools where she worked for 20 years. She and her late husband Frank enjoyed traveling and taking cruises. Their travel adventures included Ireland, the Caribbean Islands, Hawaii and Alaska. Gerry was a woman of great faith and an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She volunteered as a Eucharistic minister and PSR teacher. Gerry was an avid reader and a huge Cleveland Indian's fan.
We would like to extend immense gratitude to Avon Oaks Nursing Home and Suncrest Hospice for their wonderful staff, care and compassion.
A visitation for Gerry will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Busch Funeral Home, 163 Avon Belden Rd., Avon Lake, OH 44012 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 32929 Lake Rd., Avon Lake, OH 44012 at 11:00 am. For those unable to join the family in person, service will be livestreamed at https://boxcast.tv/view/memorial-mass-for-gerry-savel--monday-february-2-2026-w6joejvtrxa4yh57lr4v. Christian Burial to immediately follow at St. Mary of the Falls Catholic Cemetery, 1260 West Bagley Rd., Berea, OH 44017
