"He traded the dirt track for streets of gold."
November 15, 1957 – January 27, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Eric Thomas Lacy, who departed this world on January 27, 2026, at the age of 68. While his heart may have failed him in the end, it was the very thing that defined him-a heart so big, so giving, and so full of life that it left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.
Eric was a true jack-of-all-trades; there was nothing he couldn't do if he set his mind to it. He possessed an innate ability to "figure it out," fueled by a steadfast belief that if a job was worth doing, it was worth doing right. A man of grit and calloused hands, he took great pride in his work and didn't believe in cutting corners.
Eric had a deep love for dirt track racing and anything built for speed. He thrived on the roar of the motor and the adrenaline of the race; whether he was behind the wheel or in the stands, he was truly in his element whenever the competition was tough.
Eric was one of the strongest men you could ever know-tough as nails on the outside, but with a heart of pure kindness. He could be loud, opinionated, and rough around the edges, yet he never met a stranger. Though he stood his ground, he was entirely selfless-the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back without a second thought. He loved his family fiercely, protecting and providing for them with a devotion that was second to none. His toughness was his shield, but his generosity remains his true legacy.
Eric has crossed his final finish line and is now reunited with those who went before him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Bessie Lacy; six brothers: Robert, Dennis, Steven, Crockett, Richard, and John Lacy; and one son, Robert Phillip Lacy. The strength he showed in the face of these losses was a testament to the man he was.
He is survived by Tina Lacy, his wife of 30 years; his beloved dog, Sugar; four children: Becky (Jeff) Alford, Doug (Amanda) Lacy, Bryan (Sarah) Lacy, and Bruce Lacy; 11 grandchildren: Bailey, Briar, Holley, Trenton, Owen, Nolan, Gavyn, Anna, Levi, Rachel, and Steffine; five great-grandchildren; three brothers: David (Linda) Lacy, Gary L. Lacy, and Ronnie (Doris) Lacy; one sister: Bertha (Larry) Hancock; and two sisters-in-law: Connie Lacy and Karen Lacy; who are all left with the impossible task of filling his shoes, but the incredible gift of having known his heart.
A service to honor Eric's life and legacy will be held on Monday, February 2nd at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Fisk. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am. Funeral services will follow at 11 am in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Neal Chilton officiating. Burial will be at Poplar Bluff City Cemetery. The family kindly requests any monetary contributions be sent to White-Sanders Funeral Home to assist with Eric's funeral expenses.
He could fix just about anything, but he didn't realize that just by being there, he was the one holding it all together."
