Pawtucket - Dolores dos Santos Vaz, 90,affectionately known as Dolores by those who cherished her, completed her earthly journey on Friday,January 23, 2026, passing away peacefully at her home in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Born on September 28, 1935, in Providence, Rhode Island, Dolores was the beloved daughter of the late Marciano and Agueda (Santos) Vaz and the devoted sister to the late Emily Goyette. Her life was a testament to her intelligence, faith, and courage, leaving a legacy of service and kindness that touched many lives.

Dolores's early years in Providence laid the foundation for a life dedicated to helping others. Her commitment to her community was evident in her long and distinguished career as a Registered Nurse at Sturdy Memorial Hospital, where she provided compassionate care for over three decades. Dolores's dedication to the field of nursing extended beyond her hospital duties; she was also a respected nursing educator at Bristol Community College, where she influenced many aspiring nurses with her wisdom and experience.

Prior to her nursing career, Dolores served her country with distinction as a Commander in the United States Navy for over 19 years. Her service was marked by the same traits that would define her civilian life: dedication, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to the greater good. Dolores's military tenure reflected her courageous spirit and her steadfast love for her country.

Beyond her professional achievements, Dolores led a life rich in personal interests and community involvement. A lifelong resident of Pawtucket, she was a devout parishioner of St. Teresa Church, where she found solace and strength in her faith. Her faith-filled life was an inspiration to those around her, and her support of the church community was unwavering.

Dolores's passion for learning and exploration was evident in her remarkable accomplishment of completing a Volkswalk of all 50 states alongside her sister Emily, an adventure that spoke to her love of both family and discovery. She also found joy in the arts, expressing her creativity through painting, an activity that brought her great pleasure and peace.

Her role as caretaker for both her sister and mother showcased the depth of her love and the selflessness with which she approached every aspect of her life. Dolores's nurturing spirit extended beyond her family, as she provided care and support to anyone in need.

Dolores's life was one of profound impact, guided by her intelligence and a faith that illuminated her path. She will be deeply missed by her caretaker, Melissa Saraiva of Cumberland, her "girls," and the countless lives she touched. Her legacy of courage, compassion, and unwavering support will continue to inspire all who knew her.
